Just because these small canvases don’t have a name it doesn’t mean they’re not finished or that they don’t have something to say. These two and this one I finished a little while ago are three very different paintings I was working on, experimenting with texture, colour and composition. I love how even though I worked on them all at the same time they each have their own personality and voice.

The question is what do they say to you?

Ten minute sketch in drawing inks and chalk pencils.

I mentioned in a previous post somewhere that I wanted to start doing more sketching hopefully on a daily basis and in a quick manner as I find this to be very freeing creatively. I love working sketches this way as it stops me over thinking what I’m doing and obsessing over how it looks rather than just expressing what I’m seeing and feeling from whatever it is I’m sketching. This is the first in this experimentation/practice that I’m hoping to set up.

My boyfriend told me that whenever he sees flowers he’s reminded of me. I asked him why and he told me he could just imagine me with my camera taking close ups of all the colour, abstract markings and beautiful forms I see in them. It’s true, I love the nature, flowers in particular and it has reminded me to work with them more, in both my photography and art.

It’s a matter of going back to the basics of where I started out, creating around the beauty I see and sharing it with others. I think it’s easy for me to lose sight of that when I am trying to create to sell, when really art that comes from the heart speaks to others more powerfully than what we sometimes think we should be creating.
