Not so long ago I had the time and opportunity to get out and take some photographs, it’s been a while but I love the activity and grounding nature, not to mention the amazing amount of inspiration I gather from the natural world…

I find the colours and shapes of the cycles in nature so interesting and beautiful, so much so that the muted colours of this time of year have been playing into some of my journal practice at the end of the day in simple ways, such as with this colour swatch below:

Moleskine Pocket Sketchbook 3

There is just something about such simplicity that I really enjoy and hope to incorporate more of into my studio practice.

“Nestled within tightly packed pods are the seeds of life.”

Seed Pods is an original acrylic painting on canvas measuring 5 x 7 x 0.7 inches with unpainted white edges and is full of plenty of interesting marks and effects. Inspired by the hidden treasure of seed pods, something I love to find and collect on nature hunts, Seed Pods is soft and dreamy. The background is earthy and yet retains a dreamlike, unfocused quality, accentuating the colours of the seed pods themselves and allowing them, and the seeds that peek out from the cases, to pop out. It has been signed on both the front and back.

“Connecting all realms of existence since the beginning of time.”

The tree of life is a symbol that has found it’s way into many systems of belief over time. It is said to connect all of the realms of existence and hold the knowledge of each within it’s branches. Is it any wonder that the tree then is reminiscent of a brain? Tree Of Life is a silhouette painting over a setting sky, peaceful and forever present and rooted on the hillside.

Tree Of Life is an original acrylic painting on canvas measuring approximately 8 x 8 x 0.7 inches . The sky is made up of layers of muted acrylic colours that have been roughened for a worn, slightly aged look which sets the dark brown of the tree silhouette off nicely. It has been signed on both the front and back.

Just because these small canvases don’t have a name it doesn’t mean they’re not finished or that they don’t have something to say. These two and this one I finished a little while ago are three very different paintings I was working on, experimenting with texture, colour and composition. I love how even though I worked on them all at the same time they each have their own personality and voice.

The question is what do they say to you?

~All three untitled mini canvases are available to buy from my website shop. Have a name in mind for one of them? Leave a comment below! I’m open to ideas ~
