This latest batch of experiments were of the ‘I hate how these are going but I want to finish them’ variety. Layers upon layers of pure colours, built up to create similar compositions, one more balanced and the others focusing on each primary colour. They turned out better than I expected in the end and there are things I do like about them, but I think it’s pretty safe to say I’m glad this set of experiments are over. They are all part of the learning curve of exploration, however, and for that I am grateful:

The first of the oracle cards, intuitively painted in watercolour and ink from meditating on and connecting with one of the backgrounds was TREE; one of the earth cards.145mggz

Keywords: Strength, security, grounded, protection, gateway, watchful, guardian, truth, knowledge.

Thoughts: Deep within the bowels of the tree, beneath layers of bark and wood lies a path to the hidden self and wisdom of the Universe. TREE is both the guardian and the gateway to self discovery. Know that any steps of exploration that are taken through the hidden doorway in the trunk are taken with support, protection and under the watchful eye of TREE’s spirit. No harm will come to you on this journey and only truth will answer your questions.

This set focuses on painting with other utensils than brushes to create different, interesting textures and marks. The first two were painted intuitively direct onto acrylic paper, in acrylic with a palette knife. The third (the purpley one) was painted in the same way using an old spoon and plastic fork rather than a palette knife:

I am still doodling. For the most part my ink drawings are done out of the house when I am in town with my notebook and ink pen. I am finding it to be a wonderful way to relax and get grounded, particularly in the mornings and evenings if I feel like I am in a bit of a muddle mentally.

This one is a page in my Midori Traveller’s Notebook. It began as a single flower and then morphed into a longer, full page design in black ink:
